Sound Test for new-build dwellings and conversions in England
Sound Testing, also known as Acoustic Testing, measures how much noise is transmitted through party floors and party walls. This testing demonstrates compliance with Building Regulations Approved Document Part E.
Sound tests are only required in habitable rooms, such as bedrooms, living rooms/lounges, and open-plan kitchen/living spaces. They are not required for detached properties, only for buildings with party walls or party floors.
The Sound Test must be carried out on-site to accurately assess noise transmission and ensure compliance with the relevant building regulations.
